F Washington Climate Legislation
With the short 2008 legislative session in the offing, a coalition of statewide environmental groups - including Washington Conservation Voters, Washington Environmental Council and Climate Solutions - needed assistance gauging public opinion on reducing global warming pollution in Washington state. They turned to Grove Insight for strategic advice and research. Our polling provided the strategic foundation and message frame that helped propel the Climate Action and Green Jobs plan through the legislature.

Communications Workers of America

Grove Insight has helped lay the foundation for CWA’s Speed Matters Campaign, which seeks to provide high speed Internet access to every American household. This seminal effort involved focus groups across the country and a national poll designed to understand how Americans perceive the Internet, what advantages they believe it brings them, and how important it is to them personally. Our work has assisted CWA in identifying key messages and outreach strategies to help move Internet expansion efforts in individual states and the nation as a whole.

Vermont Public Interest Research Group

Thirty-eight years into its planned 40-year lifespan, it was clearly time to shut down the Vermont Yankee power plant. Not surprisingly, the plant’s corporate owner Entergy wasn’t willing to go without a fight, and petitioned regulators to extend the life of the aging, leaking reactor. With a vote of either legislative chamber able to veto the extension, VPIRG took the lead in an aggressive legislative campaign, and they called in Grove Insight to help. Our research and strategic advice led to the development of a strong message, on which we briefed staff, volunteer leaders, organizational partners and elected officials to ensure message discipline. Their hard work paid off, when in February 2010 the Vermont State Senate voted overwhelmingly (26 to 4) to close Vermont Yankee as scheduled.

The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde
Grove Insight has an extensive background working with tribal organizations. In the case of the Grand Ronde Tribe, Grove Insight provided the research and advice behind a 1996 public and opinion leader campaign that ultimately led to a groundbreaking compact, including a new casino and a community development fund where the tribe pays the equivalent of the corporate income tax rate. The Oregonian touted the advertising campaign we helped develop, saying that “Spirit Mountain Casino puts a human face on tribal gaming … showing how the casino is improving the lives of Indians and non-Indians.”
